Ryan’s Outdoor Services

Contracted to design a website:

February 2024 - April 2024

Tasks

Website Design

  • Varying customer journeys were considered when designing the website. This was an important task as the company did not previously have a website but did have a robust and established customer base.

  • The mobile website had to lend itself to users arriving from Google and Yelp reviews, as those are the company's primary sources of new clients.

  • Conveying professionalism and credibility were identified as priorities while also matching the pre-established identity the company has established in the area.

  • The company’s existing imagery and visuals were combined in unique ways to tell a story and give credence to the work and experience of the young company.

SEO

  • Each page was created with headings, keywords, and SEO descriptions to focus on showing up on Google when the service area and a specific service were searched together.

  • Images were created with descriptions to increase the rate of them showing up in Google Image searches.

  • The speed and general performance of the website were improved with optimized images, caching plugins, and minified files.

Testing

  • The website's capabilities were tested on desktop, tablet, mobile, and differing web browsers before the launch.

  • Users were asked to go through the website as potential customers, identifying what they would look for and what they were expecting to find on each page.

  • Changes were made based on user feedback, and additional features were built out to be released as the website grew.

Form Creation

  • An easy-to-use contact form was a necessary part of the website design to allow users to contact the company without the pressure of reaching out through a phone call while also giving the company the ability to transition to work-hour-only contact.

  • The form was created so customers could fill out the information as quickly and easily as possible while giving the owner the knowledge necessary to figure out quotes, timelines, and future steps.

Future Goals

  • Payment pages are being finalized to find the best fit for both users and business needs.

  • Optional questionnaires will be sent out on the website to understand how active users are using the site and to understand what could be enhanced.

  • Additional pages explaining each service will be added to both enhance SEO and allow customers to understand what is included in each service.

Accessibility

  • Images were optimized for screen readers with short and accurate descriptive alt-text.

  • Color blindness tests were done on each page to ensure accessibility guidelines were followed and all potential users would have the same access to all information.
